Qatar World Cup Cybersecurity

I have started this new trend where any cybersecurity podcast I listen to, I will write a snippet of them and upload them on my blog. Right now, I am listening to Cyberwire Daily.

Today we are sitting with AJ Nash from ZeroFox where he tells us about his experience on the Qatar World Cup cybersecurity. According to him, any big event attracts attention from both, wanted and unwanted people. Which makes sense. Such events like phishing scams, political hacktivism etc are bound to happen when an event is so big as the world cup. People are traveling from different countries. Traveling to a new country, new culture creates plenty of confusion/ culture shock takes place which the bad guys are waiting to exploit. The demand of the audience tickets would be extremely high which can be another point where the bad guys can come up with scams.

Other factors which one has to keep in mind that different countries have different laws. What is legal in one country may not be in another. One has to be trained or have some general awareness of the laws while traveling to a new country specially if the culture is very different. People also have their biases which come up during such events. But overall, such an intense-high pressure event which has caught the world's attention does attract the best and the worst. One must credit all the good guys who are working tirelessly to ensure such events go smoothly to keep the bad guys from ruining the experience of civilians who just want to have a good time.
