On AC bills

It gets hot in Gujarat. And I mean really hot. This summer it hit 47C. In such scorching weather, the AC becomes a necessity, not a luxury.

But then you have to contend with the electricity bills. I am not sure what other pay - but we pay 8.2Rs per unit after all taxes. Running an AC 24x7 could easily cost up to 300 units a month - or 2.5K INR.

If a household has multiple ACs and heat sensitive residents, you can easily hit 8-10K INR per month in electric bills.

And then there is climate change. It is depressing to realize that this might be one of the milder summers in our lifetimes.

On the plus side, we do not get powercuts here. We do have a few days ever year of electric outage, but by and large the supply is quite stable.

Wishing for a quick onset of monsoon.
